Memorable Trip to NHS Scotland for .NET Discussion!

Last Week (Oct’ 01, 2025), I traveled from San Francisco to London to give a keynote talk on the topic: 3 Critical Java Performance Issues Every Engineer Should Know‘. Talk was well appreciated. After the talk I went to this cute little city called Dundee in Scotland to meet our customer National Health Service (NHS) of Scotland government, who has been using yCrash for the last couple of years. In contrast to several government sectors, the NHS Scotland government seems to move things a lot faster. They procured our toolset so fast in comparison to other government sectors that we deal with.

Beautiful Train Ride to Dundee NHS Scotland Office

From Edinburgh I took a train ride to Dundee. Oh my god, what kind of beautiful scenery they are, all along the way. It felt like Mother nature was present there in her purest form. Green fields, white sky, sprawling water bodies, pretty mountains and cute sheeps gazing at them. Below is a few seconds video clip taken during this train ride.

From the Dundee Train station, I took a public bus to get to the NHS office, which went through historical, touristy Dundee city. NHS software development office was interestingly situated on the same campus where NHS hospital and Dundee medical university was present. I thought it was a great idea to be closer to your customers, you can better understand their needs, and serve them more effectively. My appointment with the NHS team was only at 1:30 PM. However, I reached their place around 12:15 PM itself. If it’s a new place, I typically go there in advance to avoid any travel-related surprises. Luckily, without any surprise I was able to reach the place early.

Busy NHS Hospital

Since there was more than 1 hour left for my appointment time, I visited the nearby hospital. It was quite busy, so many people were walking so fast. Below is the photograph of the hospital corridor populated with a lot of people. I bought a bottle of Scotland Mountain water from one of the several cafes in their nine-wells hospital building. Then I went back to the NHS Software development office.

yCrash support for .NET Runtime

In the office I met wonderful NHS team members: Robert Dorian, Lorraine Reid, David Cleave, Paul Freeman. NHS has been using yCrash for the last couple of years and Robert deeply understands the capability of the yCrash tool. In our earlier zoom meeting call, Robert was checking with us whether we can extend our deeper troubleshooting solution to the .NET platform as well. As on date yCrash supports only Java runtime. We thought it was a great idea; thus, we have started doing POC in .NET runtime. It’s looking quite promising. We started doing the development work in full phase. We are planning to make a beta release in Jan’ 2026 and public release by Mar’ 2026.

Scotland Delicacies and Hospitality

Robert pleasantly surprised me by offering wonderful Scotland’s native delicacies: Tunnock’s Caramel Wafer Biscuits, IRN BRU 1901 drink & Tunnock’s milk chocolate Tea cakes before I could offer him the San Francisco native Ghirardelli chocolates. In the hotel room where I was staying, they kept 2 pieces of Tunnock’s Caramel Wafer Biscuits. It tasted so good, I was thinking I should buy these biscuits and take it back home. When Robert offered the pack of Tunnock’s Caramel Wafer Biscuits, I was in for a pleasant surprise. Once I returned home, Robert asked me to taste these delicacies and rate them on a scale of 1 to 10. Here are my ratings:

Tunnock’s Caramel Wafer Biscuits: 9.5/10

IRN BRU 1901 drink: 9/10

Tunnock’s milk chocolate Tea cakes: 9/10

But here is the rating for the NHS Team’s hospitality and kindness: 100/10.

We had productive discussion around .NET solution support in yCrash and high-level rollout strategy/schedule. After this wonderful & productive meeting I headed back to the Dundee Train station to head back to Edinburgh. Near the train station in a small café, I had the most delicious strawberry milkshake of my life. Scotland has great culture, taste, hospitality and people are so kind. Can’t wait to roll out the .NET support in yCrash and head back to Scotland once again.
