Wedding chimes at yCrash after two long years.
Yes, the last time we celebrated Kousika’s bridal shower, and after that, we all pretty much got busy with tasks, bugs, and whatnot. Like a chill breeze brushing your face, that’s how we felt when we heard the wedding bells of Bhupathi.
Now, before we get into the details of what we did and how it was planned and executed, I have to be honest with you here. While I was happy to hear the news, my brain kind of froze when we started thinking about planning the event. Trust me, two years is a long time, especially with the amount of stress we are all under these days.
But thank God I document all these things and share them with you guys, because it acted as a guide. So, I think I am thankful to you all for reading this.
The Big News: Bhupathi Is Getting Married!
I am gonna be honest with you guys here. Officially, I learnt that Bhupu (that’s how I call Bhupathi. I came up with that name during our trip to Yercaud, and that kinda stuck now) was getting married soon, around the middle of July. But let me tell you a secret: I kinda knew about it even before that. Ssh… I know, I know. It was supposed to be a secret, but it’s okay. I think he won’t mind.
So, as soon as he officially sent out an email applying for leave and announcing his marriage at the same time, I immediately realized that we needed to start making plans to surprise him, just as we had done for the others.
Mission: Surprise Bhupathi – The Planning Begins
So, the first thing I did was take a weekend to read all the previous blogs about the surprise events planned for Kousi, Mahesh, and Ankita. Then, I sent an email to the entire team to give them a heads-up that we were planning the surprise party soon. I also added a Google Form so that I could collect the messages for the greeting card and the other stuff to make the event special.
When I sent out the form, the plan was to execute the surprise party in the first week of August, as he would be going on leave by August 24. With that date in mind, we started debating what could be done and what we could leave out.
Later, I announced August 12 as the date for the celebration. But, as you might have guessed by now, things didn’t go exactly according to plan. There was a delay in the delivery of the items we had ordered, so we had to push the date once again. Finally, we settled on August 17, 2026, and this time, we were determined to make it happen! (You’ll read all about it later in this blog. 😉)
The Hunt for Contact Numbers
Like for the others, the greeting card, cake, and gifts were confirmed. But then again, we decided to also get the numbers of his family members and his fiancée, if possible, to make it even more special.
I was very anxious about getting the numbers from Bhupu. He was actually pretty tight-lipped and kept things close to the vest, and it was kinda hard for me to get the numbers or any details at all. So, I had to come up with a solution.
The Secret Agent Phase Begins
I have a secret weapon. And his name is Sainath.
When I told him that I was finding it hard to get the desired details from Bhupathi, he said that he would be able to help by getting his sister’s number. I was ecstatic. I said right away, “Done,” and voila, within a few minutes, he shared Bhupathi’s sister’s number.
I immediately texted her on WhatsApp, introducing myself as his HR and telling her that we were planning a surprise event for Bhupu, with his wedding coming up. I asked her if she’d be able to help us out. She said it would be her pleasure to make her brother’s day even more special.
And that was when I decided to recruit Bhupathi’s sister as Agent 2. Her mission? Help me get to the fiancée.
Once I got the fiancée’s number, I called her, introduced myself, and explained what we were planning. I asked her if she could join the call to surprise Bhupu, and she agreed to it right away.
And just like that, we had Agent 3 on board.
Then I made her swear not to spill the beans to Bhupu until the day.
Making it special with Greetings & Gifts
The plan was coming together, or at least that’s what I thought. But I couldn’t have been more wrong about it.
When I asked Bhupu’s sister if she knew of any cake shop nearby where they could get a customized cake, she said that because they lived in a rural area, there might not be any such options. So, we had to settle for a normal cake, with maybe a designer cake topper. I decided that when we ordered the other items for the surprise event, I would add a cake topper to the list as well.
Then I collected messages from the team and started designing the greeting card. It came out really well. But then, unlike for the others, I wasn’t confident that shipping the card from my place to his would be a good option. There was a high chance that the package could get delayed.
So, I decided to send the card design to Abhi (my go-to person here, because whenever I hit a wall, he helps me out) and gave him instructions to print it out and also order things like a groom-to-be sash, wall decoration items (including balloons and glitter paper for the backdrop), and the cake topper. Since he was in Bangalore, it would be much easier to get everything delivered to Chittoor.
Also, it was at that moment that we realized that the address shared by Bhupu’s sister was the same address as Bhupu’s. All this time, I was under the impression that they were living in separate houses. So, I had to request an alternate address because we didn’t want to risk Bhupu receiving the package and opening it.
The cat would be out of the bag, wouldn’t it?
That’s when I learnt that Bhupu’s sister was working in a bank. So, she shared her bank address. This made things much easier for Abhi. His wife works for a bank as well, and they use BlueDart to send packages every day. So, we would be able to use that service to get the items delivered safely.
The Surprise Moment
The plan was now all coming together. The items were ordered, the card was printed out, and everything was shipped to Bhupu’s sister. While Abhi was taking care of all that, I notified the team that we would have the event on August 17, 2026, and designed an invitation card as well.
I also called the fiancée and informed her of the date and the plan for her to join the session and surprise him. But simply having her join the call wouldn’t do. We needed to make sure Bhupu didn’t spot her before the actual reveal.
So, we came up with a sequence. And if everything went according to plan, Bhupu wouldn’t suspect a thing.
The Surprise Sequence
9:00 AM → Bhupathi + DB Team join the call
9:10 AM → Everyone else joins; Bhargavi joins using Annya’s name with her video OFF
9:15 AM → Bhupathi’s sister enters with the cake + greeting card
9:15–9:17 AM → Everyone reacts and lets Bhupathi enjoy the first surprise
After his sister leaves → Abhi says, “Annya has something to say.”
Cue → Bhargavi turns her video ON and surprises Bhupathi
After the surprise → Let the Groom Shower begin!
Unexpected Twists
It was August 16, 2026, and Bhupu’s sister called me to go over the plan one more time. That was when she updated me about the cake.
Yes, luckily, she had found a bakery that did custom cakes, and she had ordered a “Game Over” cake for the event, which was one of the designs we had originally planned. It was a sweet surprise, though.
She had also decorated the space the previous night itself. That made me feel much more at ease.
The other unexpected twist happened on the morning of the event itself. Three key members, including our very own secret agent, Sainath, posted their leave in the attendance group. This made Abhi and me worry a little too much. The other two were Sanju and Sandeep.
If you notice, you can see that all the team members whose names start with “S” decided to take the day off. Lol.
But I was able to convince Sandeep to join the call for Bhupu, and guess what? He made it!
Thank you, Sandy! (That’s what I call him. Yeah, I know what you’re thinking. I always give everyone new names. Lol.)
The Epic Moment: From Single B to Double B
At 9:00 AM, we all started joining the call. As soon as Ram joined, I informed him that he would see two Annayas on the call, and one of them was Bhargavi. We decided to pretend that I had joined from my phone because my speaker was not working. Until 9:15 AM, when the rest of the team had joined, Ram would continue to run the meeting like any other day, and we would signal once we were ready to surprise Bhupu.
The meeting commenced, and everything was going according to plan.
Around 9:10 AM, I asked Bhupu’s sister if she was ready with the cake and instructed her to give the cake and card to Bhupu by 9:15 AM. Some of the team members had not turned on their cameras, so I posted on Zoom and requested everyone (except Annya 2, obviously) to turn their cameras on.
The cake was delivered to Bhupu by his sister, and then she left for work. Bhupu was the only one who still had his camera off, so we asked him to turn it on.
Meanwhile, I had been pinging Ram that we could start the surprise, but he got carried away and continued talking about the business aspects. So, I had to call him personally on his phone and ask him to stop so we could begin.
Lol, sorry, Ram! 😅
Then Ram handed over the call to Abhi, and he stuck to the script. He said, “Annya wants to ask something of Bhupu,” and at that moment, he dropped from the call, saying that he would join from his mobile.
But we didn’t want to waste even a single second. I asked Bhargavi to turn on her camera so that, once Bhupu joined, he would be shocked to see her. We all welcomed her, and that’s when Bhupu joined the call.
He didn’t notice her at all.
And before we could all say anything, Bhargavi took control. She called out to him, and that’s when the magic happened.
He was genuinely surprised. He called out her name and asked, “Bhagi, is that you?”
I think that was the moment he realized what was happening. Then he switched to his mother tongue, and we started pulling his leg for suddenly switching languages.
Once he calmed down, he called out to me and asked how I had managed to get Bhargavi’s number. That was when I told him that I had been in touch with both his sister and fiancée for some time and that we had been planning this surprise for him all along.
Then we had Bhupu cut the cake on the video call while we remixed the Happy Birthday song into wedding wishes for the BB Couple (Bhupathi + Bhargavi) and wished them both a happy married life together.
And just like that, Single B officially became Double B.
The Secret Almost Revealed
After the surprise was over, I connected with Bhupu, and that’s when he revealed something that made me laugh.
Remember the custom “Game Over” cake that Bhupu’s sister managed to order at the last minute? Well, Bhupu actually drove her to the bakery!
He told me that he was waiting in the car while his sister went inside and ordered the cake. Naturally, he asked her what she was up to. And guess what she told him?
Apparently, the cake was for “some guy at work who was celebrating a milestone.”
Now, I have to give it to her, that was a pretty smart move! She managed to order a customized cake, with Bhupu sitting right outside the bakery, and still didn’t give away the surprise.
Looking back, I think Agent 2 deserves some serious credit. She didn’t just help us get the numbers and coordinate the surprise; she managed to keep the secret even when Bhupu was practically at the scene of the crime! 😄
Thankfully, Bhupu didn’t suspect a thing. And that’s how the “Game Over” cake made it safely to the groom without the groom ever realizing what was actually going on.
Another Celebration to Remember
And there we had it. The plan that had started with me going back and reading our old celebration blogs had finally become another celebration worth documenting.
From secret agents and hidden phone numbers to cake surprises, last-minute worries, and a very well-timed “Annya has something to say,” we somehow managed to pull it off.
Most importantly, we got to see Bhupu genuinely surprised and happy. And I think that made all the planning, coordination, and little panic moments completely worth it.
I hope you enjoyed reading it and felt our happiness as your own. Hopefully, we’ll see you at yet another celebration soon!
